The best social media monitoring tool is the one that tells you about a mention while it still matters. For B2B teams watching Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Hacker News and Bluesky, that means SnitchFeed, Octolens, Syften or KWatch.io. For broad brand monitoring across Facebook, Instagram and the web, Brand24, Mentionlytics, BrandMentions and Awario are the self-serve picks, but their alert speed depends on which plan you buy. Below, 16 tools are compared on how fast they alert you, on which plan, on which platforms, and where the alert lands, using each vendor's own pages.
Quick answers (checked October 2026):
- Best for B2B teams that want fast alerts without the noise: SnitchFeed, real time on Reddit and Bluesky, as often as hourly on X, LinkedIn and Hacker News, with every mention scored for relevance and buying intent, from $59/mo.
- Fastest on Reddit: KWatch.io (seconds, even on its free plan) and Syften (under one minute).
- Cheapest fast plan among the brand monitoring tools: Awario, new mentions "within a couple of minutes" from $29/mo billed yearly.
- Best for enterprise research teams: Brandwatch.
- Best free option: F5Bot for Reddit and Hacker News, Talkwalker Alerts for news and X.
Social media monitoring is the real-time half of social listening: it catches individual mentions as they happen so someone can respond. Listening adds the analysis on top. If you want the full difference, see social listening vs social monitoring. If you're comparing broader listening suites rather than alert speed, see best social listening tools.
This list reflects our opinion of the market
This list was written by Parth Koshti, SnitchFeed's founder, so SnitchFeed is #1. We built it because we think it's the best way for B2B teams to catch buyers in social conversations. It isn't the right tool for every team, so the rest of the list is built to help you find the one that is:
- Alert speeds and plan limits come from each vendor's own pricing pages and help centers, checked in October 2026. Where a vendor doesn't state a speed, we say so instead of guessing.
- Every tool has a limitations section, including ours. SnitchFeed doesn't cover Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, and has no free tier.
- Several tools here are better than SnitchFeed for jobs we don't do, like image recognition, Facebook and Instagram monitoring, and enterprise consumer research.
- Quotes come from public posts on X and LinkedIn, each linked to the original.
How we compared these tools
Most "best social media monitoring tools" lists rank by features. We ranked by the question that decides whether a mention is useful: how long until you hear about it? For every tool we checked four things:
- Alert speed, by plan. Many tools sell speed as a plan tier. Brand24 updates every 12 hours on its entry plan and in real time only from Pro. BrandMentions updates daily on Starter and in real time only from Expert. The table shows the cheapest plan that gets each tool's fastest speed.
- Per-mention alerts or spike alerts. Some tools alert you about each new mention. Others, like Sprout Social and Agorapulse, alert you when mention volume or sentiment jumps. Spike alerts are useful for crisis monitoring and useless for replying to one person asking for a recommendation.
- Platform coverage for B2B. Whether the tool watches X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Hacker News and Bluesky, and whether "LinkedIn" means public posts by keyword or only mentions of a company page you own.
- Where the alert lands. Email, Slack, Discord, Teams, webhooks, mobile push, or an AI agent over MCP.
G2 ratings are included as of October 2026. Prices are per month, billed annually unless noted. Prices and speeds change often, so confirm on the vendor's page before you buy.

Real-time alerts on the platforms B2B buyers use
These four tools alert you about each new mention, within seconds to an hour depending on the platform and plan, on the platforms where software buyers ask for recommendations. If your goal is to reply to people, start here.
1. SnitchFeed
Best for: B2B teams that want fast, intent-tagged alerts from Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Hacker News, sent to Slack, Discord, email, a webhook or an AI agent.
G2 rating: 5.0/5 (2 reviews), October 2026
SnitchFeed is real-time social listening for B2B teams. It watches Reddit and Bluesky in real time, and X, LinkedIn and Hacker News as often as hourly, for your keywords and Boolean queries.

Speed alone produces a noisy channel, so every mention is scored for relevance and tagged by intent (buying intent, recommendation requests, competitor complaints, pain points) before it reaches you. You set a relevance threshold per listener, and only mentions that clear it trigger an alert. That keeps a Slack channel readable even for a common keyword.
Alerts go to Slack, Discord and email on every plan. On Pro, webhooks push each mention into Clay, Zapier, Make, n8n or your own endpoint as it arrives. A REST API and an official MCP server are included on every plan, so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can read your feed and answer "who asked about tools like ours today?"
What users say about SnitchFeed:
"Im working on a content system with @SnitchFeed to find and reply to influencer marketing conversations here and on LI"
"SnitchFeed [...] scores every mention for intent. It tells you when someone is asking for a tool like yours, complaining about a competitor, or describing the exact problem you solve."

- AI relevance scoring and intent tags, so fast alerts stay low-noise
- Official MCP server and REST API on every plan
Limitations:
- X, LinkedIn and Hacker News refresh as often as hourly, not in seconds
- No Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, news or broadcast coverage
- Webhooks need the Pro plan; no free tier

G2 rating: 5.0/5 (8 reviews), October 2026
Octolens monitors Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Hacker News, Bluesky, GitHub, Stack Overflow, DEV, YouTube and TikTok.

Speed is the plan difference. Pro refreshes hourly; Scale refreshes in real time and adds podcasts, newsletters, news and web sources. Email, Slack, webhooks (which also work with Discord), the API and an MCP server are included on every plan.

3. Syften
Best for: Founders who want near-instant Reddit and Hacker News alerts on a small monthly budget.
G2 rating: 5.0/5 (1 review), October 2026
Syften watches Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, Indie Hackers, Stack Exchange, GitHub, Slack communities and more, and pushes matches by email, Slack, RSS or webhook.

Syften says it aims for "at most a 1-minute delay" on Reddit, on every plan, which makes its $29.95 Entry plan one of the cheapest fast options here. X is a $40/mo add-on on Standard and PRO, with a delay of at most 15 minutes. It doesn't cover LinkedIn.
| Syften at a glance | |
|---|---|

4. KWatch.io
Best for: Budget-conscious teams that want second-by-second keyword alerts, starting free.
G2 rating: 4.8/5 (3 reviews), October 2026
KWatch.io monitors Reddit, Hacker News, X, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube, and says it sends notifications "within a couple of seconds and up to 1 minute in case of temporary congestion".

The same engine runs on every plan, including Free, which allows two Reddit and two Hacker News keywords. X and LinkedIn keywords start on the $19 Essential plan. Slack, webhooks, the API and MCP start on the $79 Business plan, so on the cheaper plans alerts arrive by email only.
What users say about KWatch.io:
"I setup this product a few months ago, just checked my other email account and I had like 20 keyword notifications for a topic that I am following on Reddit. [...] Not affiliated, I use the free tier"
| KWatch.io at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | Seconds, up to 1 minute, on every plan |
| Pricing | Free; Essential $19/mo; Business $79/mo; Enterprise $199/mo |

- No AI analysis on the free plan; Slack, webhooks and MCP only from $79/mo
Website: kwatch.io. See also SnitchFeed vs KWatch.io.
Brand monitoring tools where speed depends on the plan
These tools cover more networks (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, news, blogs), which suits brand and reputation work. The catch: the entry plans check every few hours or once a day, and real-time updates sit on a higher tier.
5. Brand24
Best for: Brand teams that want broad social and web monitoring with self-serve pricing, and can pay for the Pro plan's real-time updates.
G2 rating: 4.6/5 (366 reviews), October 2026
Brand24 tracks Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, news, blogs and other social sites on every plan, adding LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok from Team.

Speed is tied to the plan. Brand24's help center says Individual plans "get updates every 12 hours", Team plans "every hour", and on Pro and above "new mentions are typically collected in a matter of minutes". Storm Alerts, email notifications, mobile push and Slack or Teams integrations are on every plan. Brand24 also has an official MCP server from Pro up.

7. BrandMentions
Best for: Teams that want web and social mention tracking with speed stated plainly on each tier.
G2 rating: 4.9/5 (242 reviews), October 2026
BrandMentions monitors social networks, news, blogs, forums, video and review sites, and sends real-time email notifications on its top tiers.

Starter gets "Daily Updates", Pro "Hourly Updates", and Expert and Enterprise "Realtime Updates". Its pricing and facts pages don't name which social networks are covered, only "7+" or "10+". One caveat: a July 2026 help article says real-time "may be subject to additional costs depending on your subscription plan", which the pricing page doesn't mention.
| BrandMentions at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | Daily (Starter), hourly (Pro), real time (Expert and up) |
| Pricing | Starter $79/mo, Pro $249/mo, Expert $399/mo (annual). Enterprise from $1,099/mo |

8. Awario
Best for: Small teams that want fast brand monitoring at the lowest price.
G2 rating: 3.9/5 (48 reviews), October 2026
Awario monitors X, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, blogs, forums, news and the web.

Awario doesn't tier speed by plan. Its Reddit page says "new mentions are usually detected and added to your dashboard within a couple of minutes", which makes the $29 Starter plan the cheapest near-real-time brand monitoring plan on this list. Alerts go to email and Slack, and the API is included on every plan.
| Awario at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | "Within a couple of minutes" on all plans |

Social media suites that alert on spikes
Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Agorapulse are publishing and engagement suites with listening sold on top. Their listening alerts fire when volume or sentiment changes, not on each new mention, so they suit crisis detection better than replying to individual posts.
9. Sprout Social
Best for: Social teams already publishing with Sprout that want spike alerts on top.
G2 rating: 4.4/5 (6,874 reviews), October 2026
Sprout Social's Listening is an add-on to the Standard plan and up, priced by quote.

Sprout's pricing page promises custom Spike Alerts for "a sudden volume or sentiment change", delivered by email. Its help center lists X, Reddit and Bluesky data as real time, Facebook every 4 hours, and Instagram and LinkedIn every 24 hours. LinkedIn coverage is mentions tied to a page you own, not public posts by keyword.
| Sprout Social at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | Spike alerts; X, Reddit and Bluesky data in real time, LinkedIn daily |
| Pricing | Standard $199/seat/mo (annual) plus the Listening add-on (quote) |
| Platforms | X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn (own page), Reddit, YouTube, Bluesky, web |
| Alerts go to | |
| Free trial | 30 days on Sprout; Listening trial not stated |
Strengths:
- Listening data sits next to publishing and the engagement inbox
- Real-time X, Reddit and Bluesky data
Limitations:
- Spike alerts only; no documented per-mention alert
- Listening is quote-only on top of a per-seat plan
Website: sproutsocial.com
10. Hootsuite
Best for: Enterprise teams that want Hootsuite's publishing plus Lumen's real-time listening.
G2 rating: 4.3/5 (7,477 reviews), October 2026
Hootsuite's self-serve plans include basic listening across Facebook, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Quora.

The fast parts are Enterprise-only. Hootsuite's plans page lists alerts as an Enterprise feature, and Reddit and LinkedIn listening come with Lumen, its Talkwalker-powered tier, which promises "instant notifications when sentiment shifts, trends take off, or negativity spreads". Lumen also has an MCP server for AI assistants.
| Hootsuite at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | Real-time and instant notifications with Lumen (Enterprise) |
| Pricing | Standard $99/user/mo, Professional $199, Advanced $399 (annual). Enterprise quote |
| Platforms | Facebook, X, Bluesky, YouTube, Quora on all plans; Reddit, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads with Enterprise |
| Alerts go to | Email and mobile (Enterprise) |
| Free trial | 14 days, no credit card |
Strengths:
- Lumen covers a very wide source set with real-time alerts
- Lumen MCP server for listening data
Limitations:
- Alerts, Reddit and LinkedIn listening are Enterprise only
- Self-serve listening is a feed you check, not an alert
Website: hootsuite.com
11. Agorapulse
Best for: Small and mid-size social teams on Agorapulse, and former Mention customers moving over.
G2 rating: 4.5/5 (974 reviews), October 2026
Agorapulse sells listening as the Advanced Listening add-on, through sales, covering Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn and Reddit, plus news, blogs and forums.

Agorapulse alerts are spike alerts: you pick a small, medium or large increase in volume or sentiment, and it sends an in-app notification and an email. Since July 1, 2026, Advanced Listening is also where new Mention buyers are pointed (see below). Agorapulse's MCP server, in beta, can read Listening results.
| Agorapulse at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | Spike alerts; news, blog and forum data updated daily |
| Pricing | Standard $79/user/mo (annual) plus Advanced Listening (quote) |
| Platforms | Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Reddit, news, blogs, forums |
| Alerts go to | In-app notification and email |

Enterprise listening platforms
12. Brandwatch
Best for: Enterprise research teams that need full-firehose data and threshold alerts across markets.
G2 rating: 4.4/5 (728 reviews), October 2026
Brandwatch Consumer Research collects full data firehoses from X, Reddit and Tumblr, plus news, blogs, forums and reviews.

Brandwatch Signals "automatically monitor your data in real-time" and send an email. Reddit is the exception right now: a Brandwatch help article says that as of August 28, 2026, about 89% of Reddit content arrives within three hours, with a tail of up to about 30 hours. Bluesky is near real time. LinkedIn is limited to a company page you own.
| Brandwatch at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | Real-time Signals; Reddit delayed (most within 3h, up to ~30h) since Aug 28, 2026 |
| Pricing | Quote only |
| Platforms | X, Reddit, Tumblr firehoses; Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn (own page), Bluesky, news, blogs, forums, reviews |
| Alerts go to | |
| Free trial | None; demo only |
Strengths:
- Full firehose data and deep historical research
- Alerts can reach people without a Brandwatch login
Limitations:
- Reddit alerts now lag by hours
- Quote only, with no self-serve plan
Website: brandwatch.com. See also Brandwatch alternatives.
13. YouScan
Best for: Brands that need visual and logo recognition alongside alerts.
G2 rating: 4.7/5 (308 reviews), October 2026
YouScan monitors social media and thousands of media sources, with image recognition that finds your logo in photos.

YouScan's help center says channel updates start "at 10 minutes for social media pages and takes up to an hour for other platforms". X coverage is profile-based (a user's tweets or their @mentions) and LinkedIn covers company pages, so it isn't built for keyword alerts on those platforms.
| YouScan at a glance | |
|---|---|
| Alert speed | 10 minutes to 1 hour, by channel |
| Pricing | Starter 3 $499/mo (annual), 15,000 mentions. Larger plans by quote |
| Platforms | Social media pages, X profiles, LinkedIn company pages, TikTok, news, web |
| Alerts go to | One of Slack, Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp on Starter 3; Telegram and webhooks in the help center |
| Free trial | Demo |
Strengths:
- Image and logo recognition
- Chat-app alert integrations
Limitations:
- X and LinkedIn are profile and page based, not keyword search
- Entry plan starts at $499/mo billed annually
Website: youscan.io
Free social media monitoring tools
Free tools are a good start when volume is low. They match keywords without filtering, so expect noise. For the full list, see free social listening tools.
F5Bot
F5Bot emails you when your keywords appear on Reddit, Hacker News or Lobsters. The free plan delays alerts by "up to 2 hours". Silver ($9.99/mo) cuts that to "up to 5 minutes", and Gold ($49.99/mo) sends them instantly and adds Slack, Discord and RSS. See SnitchFeed vs F5Bot.

"absolutely blown again by how fast the f5bot tracks all the requests and for free."
Talkwalker Alerts
Talkwalker Alerts is a free email alert for news, blogs, forums, websites and X, with an "as it happens" option and delivery by email, RSS or Slack. Reddit and LinkedIn aren't listed as sources.

"If you're looking for an email alert alternative to Google Alerts, which has steadily been decreasing in relevancy of late, I highly recommend @Talkwalker alerts. Accurate, prompt to the minute, relevant results & highly customisable."
Google Alerts
Google Alerts emails you when your keywords appear in Google's index, "as-it-happens", daily or weekly. It doesn't monitor social platforms, so it misses most of X, Reddit and LinkedIn. See Google Alerts alternatives.

"Google Alerts can be useful, but it can also be hit and miss. I've missed coverage in the past when relying solely on Google Alerts and ended up reporting on it a month later."
What happened to Mention?
Mention appears on almost every older list of social media monitoring tools, often as the pick for real-time alerts. As of July 1, 2026, Mention is no longer sold as a standalone product. New buyers are pointed to Agorapulse Listening, sold through Agorapulse's sales team, and existing customers keep their legacy plans (Mention's help center). The "Start a free trial" button on Mention's pricing page now opens an Agorapulse trial. If you're choosing a tool today, look at Agorapulse or the other options above.
Why alert speed differs so much between tools
Three things decide how fast a tool can tell you about a post:
- How it collects data. Some tools receive a continuous stream of new posts. Others search each platform on a schedule, every few minutes, every hour, or once a day. Vendors that sell speed as a tier are changing that schedule for you.
- What the platform allows. Each network sets its own rules and prices for data access, so the same tool can be real time on one platform and hourly or delayed on another. Brandwatch's Reddit delay since August 2026 is an example.
- Per-mention alerts or spike alerts. A real-time data feed doesn't mean a real-time alert. Suites like Sprout Social and Agorapulse alert you when volume or sentiment changes, not when one post matches.
Speed only helps if the alert is worth reading. On a common keyword, a real-time feed without filtering floods a Slack channel within a day. That's why tools that score relevance before alerting, or let you write tight Boolean queries, are easier to live with at high speed.
How to choose a social media monitoring platform
Answer three questions first:
- Which platforms matter? B2B buyers ask for recommendations on Reddit, X, LinkedIn and Hacker News. Consumer brands need Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
- How fast do you need to know? Replying to a buying question works best within the hour. Reputation reporting can wait a day.
- Where should the alert land? Slack or Discord for a team that replies, a webhook or CRM for sales, email for a weekly review, or an AI agent over MCP.
| Your situation | Shortlist | Why |
|---|---|---|
| B2B team replying to buyers on Reddit, X, LinkedIn, HN | SnitchFeed | Real-time Reddit and Bluesky alerts with intent tags, Slack and webhooks, MCP on every plan |
| Developer-tool company that needs GitHub and Stack Overflow too | Octolens | Widest developer-platform coverage |
| Fastest Reddit alerts on a tiny budget | KWatch.io or Syften | Seconds to one minute, from free or $29.95/mo |
| Brand monitoring across Facebook, Instagram and the web | Brand24 or Mentionlytics | Broad coverage; buy the plan with real-time updates |

Social media monitoring tools FAQ
What is the best social media monitoring tool?
It depends on your platforms and how fast you need to act. For B2B teams on Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Hacker News and Bluesky, SnitchFeed gives real-time Reddit and Bluesky alerts with intent tags from $59/mo. For broad brand monitoring, Brand24 and Mentionlytics cover the most networks, and Awario is the cheapest fast option. Enterprise research teams use Brandwatch.
What are the top 5 social media monitoring tools?
By alert speed and coverage for B2B teams: SnitchFeed, Octolens, Syften, KWatch.io and Brand24. For consumer brands, swap in Mentionlytics, Awario and Sprout Social.
What is a social media monitoring tool?
A social media monitoring tool watches social platforms for your brand name, competitors or keywords, and alerts you when a new post matches. It's sometimes called a social media tracker or mention tracker. Monitoring focuses on catching individual mentions quickly; social listening adds analysis of trends and sentiment across many mentions.
What is keyword monitoring on social media?
Keyword monitoring on social media means getting an alert whenever a post contains a word or phrase you choose, such as your brand, a competitor, or a problem your product solves. It's different from SEO keyword monitoring, which tracks where your website ranks in Google, and from website keyword monitoring, which checks whether text appears on a web page. Every tool on this list does social keyword monitoring; they differ in which platforms they cover, how fast they alert you, and how well they filter out irrelevant matches.
How fast do social media monitoring tools alert you?
From seconds to a day, depending on the tool and plan. KWatch.io and Syften alert within about a minute on Reddit. SnitchFeed is real time on Reddit and Bluesky and as often as hourly on X, LinkedIn and Hacker News. Brand24 updates every 12 hours on its entry plan and in real time from Pro. BrandMentions is daily on Starter. Free Google Alerts and F5Bot can lag by hours.
Which tools monitor Reddit in real time?
KWatch.io (seconds, including its free plan), Syften (under one minute), SnitchFeed (real time), Awario ("within a couple of minutes") and Octolens on its Scale plan. Brandwatch covers Reddit, but since August 28, 2026 most Reddit content reaches it within three hours. For Reddit-only tools, see best Reddit monitoring tools.
Which social media monitoring tools cover LinkedIn?
SnitchFeed, Octolens, Mentionlytics and Agorapulse list LinkedIn, and KWatch.io covers LinkedIn posts from its Essential plan. Brand24 adds LinkedIn from its Team plan. Sprout Social and Brandwatch only cover mentions of a LinkedIn page you own, and Hootsuite only on Enterprise.
Are there free social media monitoring tools?
Yes. F5Bot is free for Reddit and Hacker News with alerts delayed up to two hours. KWatch.io has a free plan with real-time Reddit and Hacker News alerts for two keywords each. Talkwalker Alerts and Google Alerts are free for news, blogs and the web. See free social listening tools for more.
How much does social media monitoring software cost?
Free tools cost nothing. Self-serve tools start around $19 to $60 per month (KWatch.io, Syften, Awario, SnitchFeed). Real-time plans on brand monitoring tools cost more: Brand24 Pro is $399/mo and Mentionlytics Advanced $299/mo, billed annually. Sprout Social, Agorapulse, Hootsuite Enterprise and Brandwatch price listening by quote.
Is Mention still available?
Not for new buyers. As of July 1, 2026, Mention is no longer sold as a standalone product. Existing customers keep their legacy plans, and new buyers are pointed to Agorapulse Listening.
What is the difference between social media monitoring and social listening?
Monitoring catches individual mentions as they happen so you can respond. Listening analyzes many mentions over time to spot trends, sentiment and opportunities. Most tools on this list do both. See social listening vs social monitoring.
Which social media monitoring tools work with ChatGPT or Claude?
SnitchFeed and Octolens include an official MCP server on every plan. Brand24 (Pro and up), Mentionlytics (Pro and up), Syften (PRO), KWatch.io (Business and up), Hootsuite's Lumen and Agorapulse (beta) also offer MCP access. See AI social listening and social listening APIs and MCP servers.
