Boolean search queries

Listener keywords are boolean search queries. In Listener settings → Keywords, you manage one or more terms in the left sidebar. Each term is a full query with its own platforms, match settings, and optional LinkedIn or X search filters.

This page uses the same example as Keywords to track: you sell a Notion competitor and want posts where people complain about Notion or ask for alternatives.

How queries are organized

A listener can have multiple terms. Each term appears in the sidebar and runs as its own monitoring unit:

• X and LinkedIn schedule a scan per term (see Credits & usage for how that affects billing).
• Reddit and Bluesky still match in real time using the same boolean logic.

Select a term to edit it, or click Add term for another angle (for example one query for notion alternative and another for quitting notion).

Query builder sections

Main term

The main term is the anchor of the query (for example notion, notion.so, or "notion alternative"). Whole word and Case sensitive apply to the main term:

• Whole word matches the term as its own token, not as part of a longer word (helpful for short terms like block).
• Case sensitive respects capitalization on the main term only. Refinement and exclusion terms use their own match rules.

Example (Notion competitor)

• Main term: notion with whole word on to avoid accidental hits inside unrelated words.
• Main term: Notion AI with case sensitive on when you only want that capitalization.

Must also include (AND)

Every term here must appear along with the main term. Use this to require complaint or switching language next to a broad brand name.

Up to 5 AND terms per query.

Example (Notion competitor)

A post must mention notion and at least one of those refinements (depending on how you combine AND rows).

Must mention at least one of (OR)

At least one of these terms must appear with the main term. Use OR groups for synonyms, category words, or parallel phrasing.

Up to 5 OR terms per query.

Example (Notion competitor)

• Main term: notion
• Must mention at least one of: alternative, replacement, competitor, vs

Ignore posts mentioning (NOT)

Posts that mention any of these terms are skipped before scoring. Use this for recurring noise: jobs, promos, template sellers, unrelated brands.

Example (Notion competitor)

• Ignore posts mentioning: hiring, template for sale, affiliate, internship

NOT terms match as whole words, case-insensitive (so hiring blocks HIRING but not rehiring).

Exact vs Broad

For AND and OR refinements, each chip can be Exact or Broad:

Multi-word phrases default to Exact. Single words often default to Broad when you add them.

Platforms per query

Turn Reddit, X, LinkedIn, and Bluesky on or off for each term instead of one global list for the whole listener. A term must have at least one platform selected.

Example (Notion competitor)

• Term notion alternative: X + LinkedIn (scheduled scans, buyer intent on those networks).
• Term notion: Reddit only (community complaints in subreddits you allow).

Listener-level authors and Reddit subreddits still apply; see Create listener.

Search settings (X and LinkedIn)

Under Search settings on each term:

X (Twitter)

• Minimum likes (optional) to filter low-engagement posts.
• Language (optional BCP-47 code) to narrow results.

LinkedIn

• Author job title (optional) — filter posts to a specific job title (e.g. CEO). You can add multiple job titles; each one runs as a separate search per scan interval, so two job titles = 2× the LinkedIn credits for that keyword.
• Author company (optional filter).
• Post type: any, person posts, or company posts.

Generate Keywords

After you fill in Intent signal, open Generate Keywords. SnitchFeed suggests boolean queries from your intent, brand context, and noisy signals. Review the table, tweak terms in the builder, and add the queries you want.

Generated suggestions favor a strong main term plus OR refinements and NOT exclusions. You can still add AND terms manually in the builder.

Raw boolean query

Expand Raw Boolean Query to edit the compiled string directly. The visual builder stays in sync when the syntax is valid.

Supported syntax:

• Operators: AND, OR, NOT (case-insensitive).
• Quoted phrases for exact strings: "social listening".
• Parentheses for grouping: (SaaS OR startup).

Example (Notion competitor)

"notion" AND (alternative OR replacement OR "switching from") NOT (hiring OR "template for sale")

Curly-brace alternation ({word1,word2}) is not supported. Use OR instead.

Credits and scan intervals

On X and LinkedIn, each saved term in the sidebar counts as one query for scheduled scans. The estimate formula on Credits & usage uses term count (not the number of AND/OR chips inside a term).

For LinkedIn, each author job title filter on a term generates a separate search per interval. A term with 2 job titles counts as 2 searches.

Example: A listener with 3 terms, X every 4 hours, LinkedIn every 12 hours, LinkedIn terms each have 1 job title filter:

• X: (24 ÷ 4) × 30 × 3 × 2 = 1,080 credits/month
• LinkedIn: (24 ÷ 12) × 30 × 3 × 1 × 4 = 720 credits/month

With 2 job title filters on each LinkedIn term: (24 ÷ 12) × 30 × 3 × 2 × 4 = 1,440 credits/month.

Disable platforms on a term you do not need to avoid unnecessary scans.
